Interesting...(To Me at least)

This is another post from me reminiscing about some old thing from when I was younger. I had a Columbia House cassette copy of Duran Durans "Rio" Album when I was about 15. I played the crap out of it and still have it around here somewhere. When it came time to get a CD copy of it a few years ago I was surprised by not only by fact the songs sounded like totally different mixes but also that little parts of songs were missing. Well... I turns out there are multiple versions of the album out there. There are 14 different mixes/edits of the title track alone. Someone has also put together instructions on how to reassemble the US album version here.

I may do it sometime... or I will just dust off the cassette.

Last night...

Last night I could not sleep so I slapped on the ipod and set it for random play. About 3 songs in "A day in the life" by the Beatles came on and It brought up a very vivid memory of the first time I had heard the song. It must have been 1982 and I was up at my grandparents cottage in Cadillac MI. I was up there with my family and my cousins from Wisconsin. My grandparents had a clock radio that projected the time on the ceiling it was mechanical and it would slowly change every minute. It was really late and my brother and my cousin were already asleep. When the piano intro started up and John Lennon started singing " I read the news today..." I knew it was the Beatles but it was not like any of the Beatles I had ever heard because my folks only had the Red Album on 8-track. It was dark and ominous like the moonlit shadows of the trees coming in the windows that night. It seemed lonely and like I was, lying there feeling like I was the only person awake up in Cadillac that night. The lyrics were not of the "I want to hold your hand" type I was used to hearing from the Fab Four, they were downright scary to me at the time, violent in a Richard Cory kind of way in the first verse. Then Paul appeared in the song with his alarm clock and sings his little ditty in the middle, now that was the Beatles I knew. He did not stay for long as he was swept away by Johns ahhhs and back to what I thought was a Wold War Two reference about there being "4000 holes in Blackburn, Lancashire" then the orchestra whirled around and went faster and faster until.... Duuuuuuuunnnnnnnn... the apocalyptic piano chord brought the whole song, and for a second for me, the whole world to an end. I don't remember if they played any other songs after that, but I think after that night I knew that there were deeper things going on in the world of music than I was used to hearing.

Memories....

I found this picture on my computer. It is from the 2002 auction of Napsters assets. I wonder If Snowcap has as cool a logo. I get the feeling there will be another auction in Shawn Fannings future

Number two

That is a huge plate o' hash-browns... courtesy of Remember When Cafe on South Washington Ave in fabulous Holland MI. Whoooo is it big... I had some and they were good.

Two for Food !

Here are two food related thoughts jammed into a couple of space filling blog postings. First up we have a little "I would not have thought of that" moment I had while I was fueling up my car last week thursday. (Ok look back up at picture)
Hmmmm It is a good thing they spared no expense trying to attract the pay at the pump types to come in and try the the chicken sandwich. Most of the time when I am pumping the gas it would never have occurred to me that I could get a chicken sandwich at the gas station. I just deep down kind of wish they could have incorporated the big red premium gas label into the ad.... maybe I would have gone in to check it out.

Hey ! I was there !

We were right behind the person who took this... I absolutely love this band.

New one for the fan(s)

New font engaged...

New Order Broke up again...it really is OK with me after the last Crappy album. Peter Hook has had enough and wants to rock a bit more I guess.

Well, it has been a while

I have not updated this thing in a while. Camino + Keychain + Me + Blogger = Gotta log in every darn time I want to post.
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Anyway to catch up I went to the South Bend airport a while back and went to the mens room and thought "wow those are some fancy urinals".

Well they are sinks ...I am glad I looked around before I used em...

well that's it....

I have to get an iPhone

Cool

Numbers

I found these numbers in Estes Park Colorado. They were written on the wall of the cleanest public bathroom I have ever been in. The fact they were not washed away makes me think they are very important. If anything happens to me it is because of these numbers.

Phil

Well I have to tell ya that there were a few more reasons to get the Protools LE upgrade. Variable track heights and the Dynamic Transport Mode were big sellers for me too. Don't just take my word for it. Let Phil Jackson sell it to ya...I love how every new feature is his favorite. He is my favorite computer generated character since Max Headroom.

Updated

Hey I updated my protools LE to 7.3.1.... The crazy thing seems to be working.... I am going to try to update to 10.4.9 next. I am sure all kinds of bad things are going to start happening after that restart. I got the 7.3.1cs4 ready for that....or was I supposed to do that first... we shall see... we shall see. The main selling point for me? contextual menus.... welcome to the 70's Digidesign....

Back in town

I am back in town and have a few Colorado based entries ready to go. First up is this lady who We had the misfortune to have booked a rafting trip with. She spent part of the trip talking loudly on her phone about the ending of the new Harry Potter book which had come out the day before and ya know .... not everyone had read the whole thing yet. I think there were more than a few people on the bus that wanted to do her physical harm.
P.S. Just to make it clear... I have not read any of the books and don't plan to, but have some decency and let others read it before opening your freakin yap. I know the world revolves around you, but there are a few more people here who don't know it yet.

A little true story...

Lou Reed is tele-ported through time from 1968 to 2007 into a minivan....

Easy one this time

Here is an easy one for everyone... So I was at my house for a birthday celabration and I saw this little blast from the past..... anyone get it?

yes

As you can tell from my crappy camera phone picture, I saw the Police in Detroit this week.... Yes they were awesome.

This is a cool cloud picture I took... I need to get back to work soon

In explanation...

Get It now everyone.... Boy I thought it was a good funny post one but nobody got it. The drain on the water fountain at Harderwyk looks like an RSS feed logo... I still giggle.. all alone.

Monday, July 2, 2007

I was a little confused by this...

I am not sure I want a Feed from a drinking fountain at Harderwyk. I had a hard time clicking on it....

Back from the Dead

First the synth... and now this...

So Mr. anti tech muso Jack White does not mind charging almost 60 Bucks for a USB drive with $15 worth of music on it. Only 99 bucks if I get Both? At least make em AIFF's so I can enjoy the tape hiss Mr. lofi. I am buying the album tomorrow anyway...
I think Meg got the cooler hat BTW.

Just a little hint...

Although I want everyone to go to Taj India. Do not go there at 6 A.M. like the website says...they are way closed at that time. The real opening time is like 11=00 or 11 AM I think...
Now go there and eat.

Free Lund?

For those of you that cannot see it tucked down on the bottom of the sign in the picture. This is the the ad for the Taj India website. I eat there as much as I am able too. You should also. It is not only the only indian restaurant in good old Holland MI, It is also the best. Just go to the website check out the menu and then go down there and Eat Eat Eat. Tell em I sent ya and get a free confused look. Get down there now......

The Big Four O

Here is the 40th Post I have made here... One wonders where the time goes...

I would like to take the opportunity to plug /gquit

We got a few new songs up and have a few more in the works... also hope to have an album ready for anyone who wants one... seeing that almost everyone who reads this is already in the band we may not need to press too many of em...

Not quite jumping the Shark....

But maybe more like sliding the motorcycle into the chicken stand...
I was totally enthralled with the album Antics from Interpol a few years ago... it still holds up better than most of the albums I own... love it. So here come the new single "The Heinrich Maneuver"... It is ok, but lacking the detachment and the Blondie produced by Martin Hannett sound they perfected on Antics... maybe it is progress... I hope the new album has a bit more space on it. Is this making any sense to anyone but me?

Physical Therapy...

Everybody was real nice at the Pool therapy thing... I walked on and stretched out my big fat frankenfoot. I got my own private pool... (see picture) I did not see the old pool from my swimming lesson days back in the late 70's and early 80's. Apparently they walled it off and are hiding it from the rest of the pools... poor lil' pool. Big Ups to Heather for helping me change.

Incredible...

I found this today... excellent

well I'll be....

Talk about out of nowhere.... Here is Netscape 9.
It sure brings me back to the days of Macnet where I was mktgrdn (remember that dug?). And I had a 5 more accounts because you could only get on for a half hour at a time for free. Remember how much better the Free PPP was than Mac PPP.
14.4 whoa doggie it was flying....wow has it been more than a decade... sniff...
Anyway, I tried the netscape out and boy is it ugly... but snappy. It makes firefox feel like IE 5. No it is not not as snappy as Camino.

Don't mess with the MAME

These guys take the MAME very seriously... At the time this picture was taken Doug, the gentleman on the left, wanted to make sure I got the Donkey Kong ROM working... what was I supposed to say....
If ya see them around, tell them how nice the cabinet is coming along... Big thanks to My Dad Fred for helping make the machine come along so quickly...

Everybody hates.... Camino

This is BK. He hates the Camino. But loves the kittens. Check out his blog on the left. His sucks less than mine apparently. (Hint: His is the surly one)

alarming...

Gil Gerard and Lee Majors in the same location at the same time? I am pretty sure there are rules about that. If something bad happens there, all we are left with is Dirk Benedict.

Gotta get loose, 'cause lately,
This life is leavin' me cold.
Gotta vamoose, 'cause lately,
Time flies, but all I get is old.
Got to catch some slack.
I need a quiet place.
Got to not look back because,
I need some time to waste.
I gotta vamoose, 'cause lately,
Time flies, but all I get is old.

Last weekend

My ole' buddy Ken came over with a computer he got for free. It was an old dell white lil thing. I started it up and it seemed like it took forever.... got the windows 98 blocky looking loading screen(seriously was that graphic produced for a 9" monitor or what) anyway.... it loads up and bam! the GUI is super responsive...snappy even.. It is a P3 with...get this 64 MB of ram and it is just quick. I remember moving to OS X and feeling the ...well not slowdown but lack of responsiveness that I was used to in the Mac OS. Actually it was a slowdown until 10.2 appeared and offloaded the eye candy to the video card. It is the same with XP and especially Vista. I don't like to think I need a super big a$$ 512 MB video card to make the pretty bloated OS seem less sluggish. But I guess I do...

halfway

Well this week makes the halfway point in my leg breaking extravavansa...so I have a few thoughts...
well no I don't..crap

The old bee man plans to kill us..

IQ9 was smooth with the ladies... We should never forget that... Here is a reminder.

Whaa? TVOD

Ok so I spend most of my life working second shift while TV shows come and go... and I am content watching the occasional Mythbusters. Life is good.
Until I accidentally catch an episode of 24 a few years ago.... I get hooked...watch the whole season, get all fired up and watch the one after that... and then the season before last is done and I am all glad that jack saves the day again and all but it seems kinda outrageous so I skip last season... In the meantime I get hooked on the new Battlestar Galactica show... Now I don't wanna hear all the "I can't believe starbuck is a chick" and blah blah. It is one of the best TV shows ever made period. The old show... well check it out sometime it is a cheesy kids show... I ages about as well as Knight Rider. Hmm where was I ?
Oh yea so anyway I get hooked on one show and my wonderful, beautiful wife hears good things about this show Lost this past january and so we get a few episodes.....wham I am hooked! We sometimes watch three episodes at a time life is good ...
Then we run out of episodes and have to wait a whole week to see the next one...too much time to wait .... I start listening to Jay and Jacks lost podcast just to get a fix... Thats two show... well three there are two podcasts a week life is good but a little busy with the show and all the podcasts.
Last night I caught the season ender.... Blammo the shineola hits the fan and the whole show explodes into a Technicolor "What the...?"
Anyhow, the show is not back on till january... I got a long wait ahead.... thank goodness Jay and Jack are here for me...
What is up with Wickmund's hand.... or is it Marvin Candle's

Firefox 3.0 = Minefield

Check it out here. Still love the Camino, but I really enjoy the icon.

Sunday, May 20, 2007

BK...come on dude

Would it kill ya to put something up on your blog? I mean I don't even know what happened with the kitten names... Maybe you aren't even reading this... If anyone else is reading this just tell em I would like to see an update...Please...there I said it.

it is about time....

When I was a wee lad of about six or seven I loved a show called Space 1999. I remember being at the tiny Central Park grocery store by my parents house and begging my Mom to purchase me squirt gun shaped like one of the "Stun Gun" weapons from the show. Well I got it and then it was inoperable and leaking within hours and broken within days. I totally loved that toy and looked for years for one like it on ebay and such and I never saw another one like it. Until today, Here. Apparently according to the page the gun was grey but"A rare red-coloured version was also available". Wow that is the closest I ever came to having a real collectors item.

Gone in a flash

Ok it is rant time... I just spent 3 minutes... clicking on the close window button tring to regain control of my browser...Why? Because I am on an older G3 iBook with 348 MB of ram and puny little 8 MG ATI rage graphics engine thingy? Nope I can do lots of stuff online with this lil ole thing.... Except anything that has Flash involved. I am not asking for miracles here... I just figured out half the internet is flash and it frustrates me to no end to try to load a page where someone goes crazy with it and starts playing with the beachball that comes free with OS X. Most pages are fine, I can even watch Youtube videos without too much trouble if I use Safari.... but to do a whole page with all kinds of different stuff going on kills me... well I wish it would just crash my browser..but all it does is make me click 10 times trying to close the window and get on with it. Then when it finally does close my computer continues to click away... this becomes almost comical as it may click another button on another wbpage below it and open 9 plus pages of the page I just closed... dreadful.... dreadful... I may have to try out the fiesty fawn.
...or maybe practice going upstairs and using the Big Mac...

No MMORPG for you....

There was speculation about Blizzard's new game.... Thank goodness they are keeping it RTS. I wasted many hours playing Starcraft. It is funny how, even though I won't buy it or play it, I care about it enough to spend a few moments putting this thing up about it. Blizzard is just that good.... I think that is some crazy brand loyalty.

Your FAQ is busted..

I really never got the GEOS copy to work on my C64. Big surprise there. Well it did work and I messed about with GeoPaint.... Mmmmm dot matrix.... I think it did not load my copied games from Tim VH so I did not use it... So I am looking around checking out some information about it and I find a FAQ.
Cool except most of the links are dead. this sucks.... I think I may go outside.

Games,Cadillacs,etc,etc

"Most video game people have read one book and seen one movie in their life, which is Lord of the Rings and Aliens or variations of that," Levine told MTV News, adding, "There's great things in that, but you need some variety." Got that here.
Makes me think of system shock and Marathon, two games with stories. Not kill monster, flip switch, get key, repeat. Don't get me wrong Doom was fun but pretty boring compared to Marathon 2.
It Also reminds me of something I read about video game designer back in the 70's. I remember one game creator said that the most important thing was that your game was unique, you did not want to do anything remotely like the other game designers were doing. Like anything else made for public consumption... sooner or later everything becomes a simple formula that everyone has for the same vanilla pudding pop... With a fancy new wrapper of course...

real deal

I will admit this looks like hours of fun. It is a commercial..... it is supposed to make you think it is the greatest thing since sex....so you want to buy it. In reality the game winds up and makes a annoying grinding sound like a mix between playing cards in you bike spokes and Prince in the intro part of "When Doves Cry". I am sure the Dad in the ad just wants to grab it so he can break the darn thing.

big day

As many of you know (and by many I mean the 4 people that read this) I have broken my leg in a pretty big way a little while back. In fact the whole reason this thing even exists is because I am laid up, on narcotics and crabby. I keep trying to tell myself I am not crabby but I am. If I have time to look up pictures of old junky handheld games I did not even own I am beyond board and as Thich Nhat Hanh said in his not so famous first book Enlightenment is a Quiet Breeze But it Sure is Hot out here Today: "Boredom is a stream without a pebble and the fish is Loose".....
Ah... wait....I had to look back to see what I was talking about. Anyway I think my point is I am getting a cast put on tomorrow and I can't wait to move around a little bit. I will try to breath in and feel the cool air and all that....

frigtard

I was checking out the fake steve blog.... and he has a poetry corner... so i got to change my blog name I guess... or not it is not like anyone is ever going to see this one.

As I get older

I know there is a gulf that is created by technology between generations. There are things I don't "get" I have seen people take two minutes texting someone about beach plans when both of them could have made a 30 second phone call. Maybe I am missing something . There seems to be a level of detachment in texting. I think that is comforting in the fact you can think for a second before you respond. That one does not happen in real live conversation. anyway.... I am old.. I don't "get it" what ever... the reason I brought the whole thing up is because I figure if John Schneider can't figure out Photoshop Elements, Maybe he could offload it to some kid and get better results... maybe the kid could help out James Best also.

Time

It is 9:57 PM on May 10. I am sure the posting time below will be wildly randomly different.

see.....

My shot at fame

That crazy ODBC Administrator in OS X is pretty cool... it uh well it does some cool stuff with databases and things...aw heck, I wish I was first to have a cool blog dedicated to a fairly mundane app. Turns out Mr. Hawk Wings beat me to it. I wish simpletext was still around textedit is way too complicado.
RTF smarTF...

For the record

According to Episode 55, "Dead of Knight", KITT's reaction time is one nanosecond, and his "memory" capacity is 1,000 megabits. For the latter, it is uncertain whether or not active RAM or hard drive space was being discussed. According to Episode 65, "Ten Wheel Trouble", KITT's future capacity is unlimited. Currently capable of 50,000,000 k with the ability to grow by 1,000,000 k daily. It's uncertain what unit these numbers are in, and whether or not this is RAM or hard drive space.

I got that from here

it is a kids show... not a real car... really.

Wednesday, May 9, 2007

I got a lot of free time right now...

But this is stupid.

Good luck Joseph... If you have that much time to waste, I got some yard work that needs to be done over here. You can bring the beachball with you.

truth hurts

I may not be the crabbiest man in Holland Heights. I know of at least two more men who are crabbier than me. I would expose them but I fear they may harm me in some way. Or look at me in disdain as they walk by.. . I don't need that.

Doing requests

I had a dream that I was at a Coldstone Creamery and Roy Orbison was working the counter. I was in line and became fixated with his big silver wristwatch. He was folding all kinds of goodies into some ice cream for people on his cold stone. But all I could say when I got up to the front was "hey how much for the watch?"He just looked at me like I had asked him to fold it into the ice cream. Then some other stuff happened that I can't remember exactly. I was asked to post this by the myscurvy.com guy Dug. There ya go.. no charge.
By the way that is not the watch from my dream.. it is picture I found...

one for the fan

I am lying here trying to process information I have acquired today. According to not one but two sources on the internet (yes there may be more but more than two constitutes work), Gene Wilder, sometime after Silver Streak was released, found the time to play congas on the Talking Heads album Fear Of Music... Just let that sit in your head for a second... Thats like... well I don't know what it is like because it is so bizarre to me.

I think andy is working overtime

Not only does he write his own wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Taylor_%28guitarist%29

He has like 3 myspace sites... crazy man, crazy
crap... I was supposed to wait a few months before I posted again...

Just keepin up with the joneses

I plan on this being close to my last entry. I say this because I have seen a few blogs and they usually last for a few days and then are never updated again. If I do update again it will be in a few months when I remember I have a blog for five seconds. Hope to see ya then.

Optimizing volume

yes for like 45 minutes... it was only a quicktime update... come on !

see ya every morning BK

Yup, it is a done deal. I know no one cares about my crabby ramblings. But now no one will care and it will be available to anyone.
