Gary Numan... Mr synth-pop one hit wonder in the US actually had a whole load of great songs. He was also the King of the goofy looking freeze frame face in almost all his videos. His secret weapon musically was a real rhythm section. Yes, real drums and a exceptionally gifted bass player named Paul Gardiner. He was also had a hate/hate relationship with the UK press... so much so he wrote a song about it... Here it is....

It seems I have heard this recently
But it had different lyrics and less moogs. Is there nothing Pete Shelley can't do...

A far out kinda group...
I got the Snakedrill EP by Wire when I was 17 and the Ideal copy soon after that. It was not because of this appearance on the suzanne somers hosted late show. Enjoy the Interview at the end featuring a super mulletized Graham Lewis (this was the 80's ya know)

I'm in love with the Hawthorn...
Here is the final "Best of..." from last year. The best song released last year was...
Alaska By Camera Obscura
It follows the great tradition of essential b-sides such as Roman Holiday,Return to send Her and Lemon Juice and Paper Cuts.
Listen to it Here and go get it on Amazon...and get the other singles too. It truly does not get any better than this band.

2007 list again
Best video. Breaker- Low from the Drums and Guns album.
The second best album released last year. The album is a stark reminder of the times we are living in. One group of people gorge themselves to no end while the carnage goes on all around us. In a few lines it pulls down the facade of politics and civilized debate revealing the ugly reality of the world.
Our bodies break
And the blood just spills and spills
But here we sit debating math
It's just a shame
My hand just kills and kills
There's gotta be an end to that
There's gotta be an end to that
I really find it hard to believe there is and end to it. Most people just have to be content to watch others eat the cake. However they can clap along with American Idol and remain oblivious.
Time to Quit
I just finished finished the Book "Black Postcards" by Dean Wareham. In the first part of the book he explains the reasons he quit Galaxie 500. The short version is that the other band members Damon Krukowski and Naomi Yang (who were also a couple)were pretentious spoiled rich kids who were annoying as all get out. Well look at this video, it pretty much speaks for itself. Dean is the one who looks like he really does not want to be there and tries to inject a little humor into the highbrow BS Damon and Naomi are spouting.

2007 List..better late than never
The US better get it's ducks in a pile
Well apparently Europe has surpassed the US as the "king of spam". I guess we could put a man on the friggin moon but have trouble keeping up with all those pesky EU countries. Don't get me wrong, we are still rocking the world with spam, but we just have to pull together as a country to get back up to the top. More info Here
